A Life Changer

Did you know that Girls on the Run of Greater Detroit has a Charity Running Team?  Over 50 runners from as far away as California come to participate in the Detroit Free Press races to help us raise funds for our teams! Coaches, parents, community members and usually a few staff members sweat it out to help eliminate financial barriers for our kids.  But, as so often happens with a labor of love, the affects of our training and fundraising has had a much more life changing impact on one of our team members!  Read on…

“I can’t tell you all what a life changing experience this has been for me. When I first committed to running this Fall I was only 8 weeks postpartum with my 4th baby at the GOTR kick off event. I was ecstatic to be a part of and raise money for such an amazing program. I was terrified about the upcoming months of training and if I could both mentally and physically prepare myself. Fast forward almost four months later and am so proud of all I have achieved. Not only was I able to lose 70 lbs but also feel like a new person. I’m so thankful for such a supportive family and community to help make this all come together and I can’t wait to finish strong this week with my fundraising goals.
Thank you to everyone that has been a part of this journey and works hard daily to make GOTR such a successful program. I can’t wait to see you all on race day!”  Jenni M. ,  Charity Running Team member 2017
